Chapter Crown Awards

(sponsored by Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc)

The NCSHRM State Council Crown Awards Program is an annual recognition program honoring the highest achievements in state chapter development and contributions that Advance the Profession and Serve the Professional. Chapters enter the competition by submitting an innovative project created and implemented by the chapter during the award period (January 2011-December 2011), and special consideration is given to successful programs that are readily transferable to other chapters. The Award is open to any North Carolina SHRM-affiliated chapter.

Deadline for submission: July 15 of each year for prior year's programs.

Distinguished Professional Chapter(s) of the Year Award

The NCSHRM State Council supports SHRM goals and objectives for Professional Chapters and Professional Members by recognizing North Carolina SHRM-affiliated chapters that have achieved excellence in the SHRM Affiliate Program for Excellence (SHAPE).   SHRM outlines a plan of action for success through the SHAPE program and recognizes the performance of Chapters by awarding tiered awards. To further support and recognize those Professional Chapters that meet the criteria outlined by the Society, the State Council recognizes all Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum Award winners as distinguished Professional Chapters provided they also adhere to the a few additional expectations.

Recipients determined based on submission of SHAPE in timely manner, attendance/participation at State Council meetings, and submission of articles or chapter chatter to NC Review Magazine.   Announcement of Award winning chapters occurs at the NCSHRM State Conference.

Richard "Dick" Peoples Professional of the Year Award

(sponsored by Ogletree Deakins Law Firm)

The NCSHRM State Council recognizes one active, NC Chapter Human Resources Professional annually at the NCSHRM State Conference as the Professional of the Year.  This award is given in recognition of this individual’s service to the HR community (State Council, SHRM Chapters, etc.), service to the HR profession, leadership in the business community, and service to the civic community.

Deadline for submission: July 1st

North Carolina Human Resources Professional HALL OF FAME

(Sponsored by Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLP)

The NCSHRM State Council has created a North Carolina Human Resources Hall of Fame to recognize North Carolina Human Resources Professionals for their outstanding lifetime accomplishments and/or contributions to the HR community.  This award is given in recognition of their service to the HR profession, leadership in the business community, and service to the civic community.   Each year, up to 5 individuals will be inducted into the Hall of Fame based on nominations submitted.

Deadline for submission: July 1st

Certification Assistance Scholarship

To encourage SHRM members in the state of North Carolina to pursue certification in the field of human resources, the State Council provides a scholarship to reimburse the recipient for certification exam fees for the GPHR, SPHR or PHR designation from HRCI. One scholarship will be awarded for each test period. 

Deadline for submission: within 30 days of receipt of designation.

To encourage SHRM members in the state of North Carolina to continue to maintain their certification in the field of human resources, the State Council provides a scholarship to reimburse the recipient for recertification fees for the GPHR, SPHR or PHR designation from HRCI. One scholarship will be awarded for each year.

Distinguished Student Chapter(s) of the Year Award

The NCSHRM State Council supports SHRM goals and objectives for Student Chapters and Student Chapter Members. SHRM outlines a plan of action for success through the annual Merit Award program that recognizes student chapters for outstanding activities and programs. To further support and recognize those student chapters that meet the Merit Award criteria outlined by the Society, the State Council recognizes those Distinguished Student Chapters annually.   

Announcement of Award winning chapters occurs at the NCSHRM Annual State Conference.

Jan Sharp Memorial Scholarship

(endowed by Capitol Broadcasting Company)

The State Council will award a $1,000.00 scholarship annually to a student in the eastern half of North Carolina.  The winner will be announced at the annual NCSHRM State Conference.

NC SHRM NC Student Chapter Member Scholarship

The State Council will award a $1,000.00 scholarship annually to a student in the eastern half of North Carolina.  The winner will be announced at the annual NCSHRM State Conference.

SHRM Foundation Scholarships for SHRM MembersApplication Deadline: July 16, 2012 (Applications will be available April 1, 2012).  The SHRM Foundation awards a total of $100,000 annually in scholarships for SHRM members pursuing degrees in HR-related fields or SPHR, GPHR, PHR or California certification. Members working in the media industry and pursuing a college degree are eligible to apply for a Barbara Sanchez Scholarship. 

80 Certification Scholarships ($750 each)
20 Academic Scholarships ($2,000 each)
5  Barbara Sanchez Scholarships ($1,500 each)

SHRM Foundation Student Scholarships:   Applications are available -- August 1- November 1, 2012 * NEW DEADLINE*
